Ístex Fjallalopi is Icelandic wool in a lighter and finer version. It still has the characteristic, natural look familiar from Icelandic yarns, but the thinner quality creates a lighter knit that is easier to use both indoors and outdoors.
The wool comes from Icelandic sheep, which have adapted to Iceland's harsh climate over generations. In summer, the sheep roam freely in the Icelandic nature before being gathered again in autumn. This is part of the story behind Icelandic wool – a natural material with roots going all the way back to the Icelandic knitting tradition.
The yarn has that beautiful, slightly rustic surface that suits Icelandic fair isle knitting so well. The colours are allowed to interact, and even a very simple stockinette stitch model gains character from the wool itself.
Fjallalopi is ideal if you love the look of Icelandic wool but don't necessarily want a thick and very warm sweater. It allows for lighter blouses and cardigans that still have the warmth and the very special expression that makes Icelandic knitting so recognisable.
🧶 How much do you need?
For a standard adult blouse or sweater, you typically need about 7–10 skeins of Fjallalopi, depending on size, fit, and pattern. For larger or more spacious models, you should calculate a little more.
Why choose Fjallalopi?
Because you get all that is so beautiful about Icelandic wool – the warmth, the natural colour play, and the rustic expression – just in a lighter knit.
It's a really good choice for those who want the Icelandic sweater feel without necessarily knitting one of the very heavy winter blouses.
Colours may vary slightly from screen to screen and may therefore differ slightly from the actual colour of the yarn.
