ONION No. 3 Organic Wool + Nettles
ONION No. 3 is the fine and light version of ONION's Organic Wool + Nettles series. The combination of organic wool and nettle fibers results in a yarn with a natural, slightly heathered look and a subtle sheen, making even the simplest knitwear interesting.
The nettle fibers also contribute strength and durability, while the wool provides warmth and elasticity. The result is a lightweight yarn that is very well-suited for blouses and cardigans where you want the qualities of wool without a heavy result.
With 160 meters per 50 grams, you also get plenty of yarn per ball. No. 3 is knitted at approximately 24 stitches on 3 mm needles, making it ideal for finer adult knitwear, baby and children's garments, as well as designs with structure, patterns, or a simple look where the yarn’s own interplay of colors can shine. Permin specifies 70% organic wool and 30% nettle fibers.
🧶 How much do you need?
For an average adult blouse, you should typically count on about 7–10 balls, depending on the size and design. If you are knitting brioche, cables, or other yarn-intensive textured patterns, usage may be higher.
For baby and children's knitwear, you will, of course, go a long way with less – for example, many of ONION’s baby designs use only 2–4 balls.
Always check the yarn requirements in the specific pattern before ordering.
Why should you choose ONION No. 3?
Because you get a classic, natural wool yarn with a little more character. The nettle fibers provide both strength and the fine heathered effect and sheen, ensuring the yarn doesn't look flat.
And because No. 3 is the fine-weight quality in the series, it is particularly interesting for lighter knitwear where you want warmth without ending up with a heavy sweater.
Colors may vary slightly from screen to screen and may therefore differ a little from the actual color of the yarn.
